Bizarre Hotel Of The Month- February 2011

There was only one contender for this months bizarre hotel, and that is the distinctly unique Jules’ Underwater Sea Lodge. Yep, kids, it does what it says on the tin: you’ve got to scuba dive 21 feet beneath the surface of the sea to get to your digs. It really is, well, completely underwater. You have to dive through the tropical mangrove habitat of the ‘Emerald Lagoon’ to get to it – pretty snazzy!

The cottage sized building boasts hot showers, a well stocked kitchen (complete with refrigerator and microwave), books, music, and films. Everything you’d need for a comfortable night in a hotel really!

The entire structure of Jules’ Undersea Lodge is underwater, sitting up on legs five feet off the bottom of the protected lagoon. The Lodge is filled with compressed air, which prevents the water from flooding the rooms. A five by seven foot “moon pool” entrance apparently feels a little like surfacing in a small swimming pool. Upon entering, you’ll find yourself in the ‘wet room’, where you leave your gear, shower and then enter the rest of the living area.

Rather fabulously, you can order a mer-chef, who will scuba dive down to you to cook you a nice dinner. Nice!
