Colourful England

It’s English Tourism Week and with that we thought it would be a great idea to celebrate some of the most colourful places, attractions and events going on in this wonderful country of ours!

Notting Hill houses

As you walk the streets of Notting Hill and Ladbroke Grove you will notice great bursts of colours. From bright reds to sunshine yellows and all the way to sky blues, these coloured houses, usually in groups of five to 10, are randomly dispersed around the streets of this part of London.

The reason to why these houses are so vibrantly painted is unknown, yet so many flock to see them. Against the grey skies of London they do look pretty amazing! For an extra burst of colour why not head to the annual Notting Hill Carnival which falls on August bank holiday weekend?

Holi festival

There can’t be many events that get as colourful as Holi! This friendly paint fight is a celebration of good winning over evil. Originating in India, Holi has now spread to the rest of the world. You can find several Holi events across the UK but expect to get pretty colourful with paint and powder being thrown around everywhere! As long as you embrace the colour and the mess then you’ll be sure to have a great time.

Colourful punts on the river Cherwell in Oxford

Punting is a very English thing. The most famous location for punting in England, without a shadow of a doubt, is Cambridge, but we think Oxford is just as good. Plus it has a range of amazingly colourful punts to choose from, which we find quite exciting. After punting make sure you check out the rest of Oxford, with its many museums and its famous university there really is plenty to see and do here.

Flowers in Cornwall

One thing’s for sure, spring and summer time in England can be pretty beautiful. Although you can see flowers all over the country during these seasons, Cornwall in particular is very colourful. Its bright red flowers lacing the fields make an impressive sight. And with 2016 also being the Year of the English Garden, we felt it was only right to include one of our favourite spots in this list.

Brighton beach huts

The colourful beach huts of Brighton are something that makes this beach stand out just that bit more from others in England. Brighton itself has a fantastic reputation for being a vibrant and cosmopolitan city so really these colourful huts just fit right in. For even more colour then make sure you pop down to Brighton in August for the world famous Brighton & Hove Pride festival. A day of equality and lots and lots of rainbows everywhere!

Colourful houses in Bristol

If you’re ever in Bristol then be sure to check out the colourful harbourside. The best way to see all the building is to take a Bristol Ferry Boat down the river and sail past all the bursts of colour. On top of this Bristol also has some pretty impressive and super colourful street art. And with Bristol being the hometown of famous street artist Banksy there are some amazing pieces of art to find when exploring this bohemian city.

Charity colour runs

Inspired by the amazing colour throws of Holi festival is the UK’s Colour Run. Participants sign up and are given white t-shirts on the day of the five-kilometre run – which soon become multi-coloured! Anyone can enter and all money and sponsers go to a charity of your choice. As well as colour throws there are also live DJs playing on your way round. Basicallly it’s one big colourful party, and one we want to get involved in!
