Hotel Review: White House Brighton

Brighton is one of my favourite cities in the UK, it really does have it all – the beach, the bars, the restaurants and the nightlife to match. There is one other asset in plentiful supply ‘boutique hotels’ and I must admit to being a bit of an addict. I have stayed in many of them in recent years but one of my favourites is The White House. Situated on Bedford Street, just to the east of the main pier, only 100 metres from the seafront its location is hard to beat too.

When you walk in it feels crisp, clean and welcoming, the rooms are decorated in a contemporary style with white walls and feature wallpapers in subtle tones. The hotel inspector would certainly approve of the fluffy white towels, white linen and simple contrasting bedspreads and quite frankly so did I.

The only downside when it comes to guest space is that apart from the dining room and reception area there is not really a communal relaxation space. With so much to do in Brighton though does this really matter? To overcome this issue if you can stretch to it I would recommend booking the Suite. I stayed in this room on my second visit and it was like having my own apartment. The Suite is available from £130 – £250 per night. Single rooms start from £50 and doubles from £85 depending on the time of year or week.

Owner, manager and chef Sean is a great host, on hand with restaurant recommendations and advice on things to do during your stay if you haven’t already filled your time yourself. The breakfasts are great too, using the excuse of being on holiday I can’t usually resist their full English, made with fresh local, free range ingredients, the sausages are fabulous. For the more figure conscious guest there are plenty of lighter options or a veggie breakfast on the menu which changes seasonally.

There is some free on street parking but the maximum cost is £6 for 24 hours (Monday – Saturday). The hotel can advise you where to park and sell you the necessary permits.

If you’re looking for a stylish, friendly and peaceful Brighton base, The White House gets my vote every time. To book call 01273 626266 or see www.whitehousebrighton.com
