New England Leaf Fall

October is the month when visitors flock in huge numbers to see the beautiful Autumn leaves in New England. It’s as popular as the cherry blossom season in Japan, but normally involves more driving so you can seek out the best spots and see as many areas as possible, as the different tree varieties offer different visual spectaculars.

The leaves have started turning so you can grab yourself a last minute flight over to the East Coast of the USA as soon as you want. The colours last until around the end of October so you’re going to have to be quick!

The area you should aim for depends largely on when you can go. The northern areas change first, so early birds can head to northern Maine and Vermont. Mid-October is usually best in New York and Massachusetts, whilst those leaving it until later in the month should think about going to Connecticut and New Jersey.

Unfortunately, many of the prime spots get booked up months in advance so you’re going to have to think a little creatively. Try grabbing a last-minute hotel, or look out for off-season ski resorts. You could even try to go camping, or hire a camper van if you want a little more of the home comforts.

Hikes and cycle rides are popular as you can enjoy the colours from some beautiful spots you just can’t get to with a vehicle. But for the ultimate view you can treat yourself with a hot air balloon ride!
