Christmas events and activities can be expensive, especially in London, however visiting Christmas light displays is a fun and free thing you can do in the city this festive season. There are a great number of impressive light displays throughout London, but the ones below are consistently popular each year for their wintry photo opportunities and festive atmospheres.

Belgravia Christmas Lights

The Belgravia Christmas Lights are iconic in London, with many travelling to see them each year to snap some pictures. This year, the Belgravia Christmas lights are selfie-friendly and features a giant Christmas wreath that you can stand in front of, decorated with twinkling lights and shining baubles – perfect for a festive Instagram photo. There are also dangling lights and glowing arches and the lights spread throughout Motcomb Street, Elizabeth Street, Halkin Arcade, Pimlico Road, and Eccleston Yards.

Carnaby Street Christmas Lights

Carnaby Street is a quirky area of London that attracts masses of people from all over the world. The Carnaby Street Christmas lights are no exception: the display is typically packed with colour and innovative decorations. This year, the theme is ‘Carnaby universe’, featuring an array of lights shaped like planets, carefully placed to reflect the solar system. Covent Garden Christmas Lights

The Covent Garden Christmas lights are immensely popular each year. This year, the classic mistletoe that lines the roof of the piazza has been replaced by golden bells, spinning mirror balls and baubles, giving it a traditional festive feel. You’ll also find an impressive sleigh in the piazza, a well as a collection of elegantly decorated Christmas trees. Additionally, Marc Jacobs is hosting a pop-up shop in the centre of the square from the 8th of November to the 3rd of December, which will showcase the Marc Jacobs Resort Collection. The shop itself is designed to resemble a present and illuminated by golden lights, making it an excellent backdrop of a festive photo.

Annabel’s London

Annabel’s is an exclusive members-only club and bar in Mayfair. While it can be tricky to get into this venue, people visit throughout the Christmas season just to stand outside and gaze at the spectacular Christmas display. Each year, the exterior is transformed into a festive and wintry dream with over-the-top decorations that make the location look like something from a fairy tale. Last year, the club’s Christmas decorations were inspired by an old fashioned carousel, this year, the façade has been modified to look like a vintage hot air balloon!

Oxford Street and Regent Street

Oxford Street has once again been decked out with twinkling stars and string lights that hang from above. Additionally, Selfridges’ mesmerising window displays are now lined with sparkling lights and foliage, many of which display a Father Christmas performing on stage, very rock’n’roll! Regent Street’s famous angel wing Christmas lights are up and aglow, making this street an ideal spot for some seasonal snaps.
