There are a number of ancient landmarks, statues and structures around the world that have been the focus of speculation throughout history, mostly due to their magnitude which has perplexed individuals, causing them to question who built them, how they were built, and, was this the work of something bigger? Read on to find out about some of the world’s most debated historical sites that may or may not have been built by aliens.
Easter Island
Located in Chile, Easter Island has fascinated historians for decades, due to the range of unexplained structures and supernatural theories that surround it. Almost 900 stone figures were found dotted around the island upon its discovery, each weighing a considerable amount and thought to be over 1,000 years old. It is thought that these rock carvings were built for religious, spiritual or ritualistic purposes, but there is no concrete answer detailing how the moai were sculpted or whether it was humanly possible to create such large and detailed statues during the time period that they were built in. The moai sculptures are around 13-feet tall and are thought to weigh 14 tons each, meaning that it would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible to create and move these huge structures without the necessary technology. Due to this, people interested in the supernatural have speculated that something otherworldly may have occurred and that perhaps the moai were created and left by aliens as a symbol of their existence. What do you think?
Stonehenge
Similar to Easter Island, Stonehenge has also baffled historians and scientists for years, because of the simple question — how did they do it? Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage site and historical landmark found in Salisbury, which is built from a range of stones weighing up to 50 tons. While the same questions about how the structure was built has perplexed the public, scientists have since suggested that this site was not the product of aliens, but was instead merely built by humans around 5,000 years ago. After extensive research it was found that technologies did exist at the time that Stonehenge was built, which enabled its creators to do so. It has also been discovered that the frame of the structure was designed to align with the sun’s movements, eclipses and solstices, indicating that it was built with the purpose of tracking the sun as it shifts. Other theories have suggested that Stonehenge was originally built as a sacred hunting ground, a burial site, and of course that it was built by extraterrestrials!
Pyramids of Giza
Built almost 5,000 years ago, the Pyramids of Giza are undoubtedly one of the most famed historical landmarks in the world. Located in Egypt, the oldest and tallest of these pyramids is the Pyramid of Khufu which stands at 146 metres tall, and was built using large blocks of stone. The pyramids were built to house the tombs of beloved queens and pharaohs of Ancient Egypt, and many of them were filled with priceless treasures and decorated with hieroglyphics. Since the stones weigh a minimum of two tons each, it remains unclear as to how exactly these structures were built. While building similar structures using today’s technologies is possible, it would not be easy. Even though scientists aren’t entirely sure how these pyramids were built, there is a great deal of evidence that suggests they were in fact built by humans. This once again debunks any theories of alien interference. Despite this evidence, outer space enthusiasts continue to reject this, believing that with no explanation of how the pyramids were built, it would be wrong to throw out the possibility of extraterrestrial intervention.
