Victoria Park’s Family Festive Day

The Hub, Victoria Park, Old Ford Rd., London E3 5PE

When: 11pm – 2pm on Saturday 16th December

This family-friendly event gives littles ones a chance to meet Santa in the Hub Cafe turned Christmas grotto. It’s not all about meeting the big guy either, there are mince pies to be devoured, carols to be sung and even festive arts and crafts to take part in. Previous years have given the whole family the chance to make their own Christmas cards, and we expect the same to be the case this year.

Eat At:

The Italian Job

130 Cadogan Terrace, London E9 5HP

This unassuming spot on the edge of Victoria Park does some of London’s very best pizza. There are pastas, salads and burgers on the menu too but it’s the satisfyingly chewy pizzas that you should be ordering here. The pizza menu is fairly short and simple, but our favourite is the Parmigiana, which has a smoky hint that’s somehow even more delicious when the weather outside is chilly.

Drink In:

Grow

Main Yard, 98C Wallis Rd, London E9 5LN

It’s hard to find drinking spots in London with a community feel to them but Grow in Hackney Wick manages to maintain just that. The bar describes itself as “an experiment in ethical and sustainable business” and this is reflected in everything it does. The menu is heavy in vegan and vegetarian options, some of the drinks are homemade and tickets to many of the events they run cost in at a wallet-friendly £5. This all sounds rather serious, but we promise the atmosphere here is distinctly fun. It’s like a slice of Glastonbury Festival in the heart of East London!
