Eat At:

Mangal 2

4 Stoke Newington Rd, London N16 7XN

Mangal 2 is kind of the child of the much-loved Mangal 1, which resides just up the road from this spot. While Mangal 1 is a traditional (and very good) Turkish spot run by Ali Dirik, his sons (Sertaç and Ferhat) have shaken things up at Mangal 2. You’ll find small modern takes on traditional dishes which just call to be shared, which is exactly what we did on a visit here with friends. Highlights included the mushroom manti with cauliflower mushrooms and garlic yoghurt, a hearty dish with interesting textures and tastes, and the crispy borek stuffed with cheese and wild garlic.

The drinks list is short with carefully-curated cocktails, wines and beers. We recommend opting for wine: this is a spot that’s all about sharing after all.

Drink In:

High Water

23 Stoke Newington Rd, London N16 8BJ

This stretch of Stoke Newington Road is brimming with bars where the chairs are shoved aside early in favour of dancing. However, as fun as they all are, sometimes you just want a quiet drink in moody surrounds. That’s where High Water steps in! Here, you’ll find all of your favourite cocktails sitting alongside more unusual drinks like the Drunk Bunny, which pairs mezcal with coconut and tequila, for a drink that’s both decadent and punchy. It’s open late all week long, making it a great spot for an end-of-the-night tipple.
