The Dulwich Picture Gallery is getting into the festive spirit with a programme of wholesome wintry events. This weekend, the venue will host a family-friendly festival based around its current exhibition Rubens and Women and the artist’s use of light. Eat:

Ken’s Fish Bar

131 Half Moon Ln, London SE24 9JY

This neighbourhood fish and chip shop has been endorsed by restaurant critic Jay Rayner, who even took Phil Rosenthal there when he appeared on his Netflix foodie show Somebody Feed Phil. Positioned between Herne Hill and Dulwich, the golden glow of Ken’s offers a friendly welcome and a comforting meal of freshly fried fish and moreish salt-and-vinegar-doused chips. We can’t think of a better way to warm your hands and your heart on a crisp London day.

Drink:

The Half Moon

Herne Hill, 10 Half Moon Lane, Herne Hill, London, SE24 9HU

This cosy corner pub is just the spot for a tipple or two on the way home from a day out. The Grade II-listed building has been a pub since 1760 and its rich history—which includes performances by Frank Sinatra and David Bowie—can be felt in all of its wood-lined corners. In addition to its selection of ales and craft beers, on a weekend you’ll find one of the area’s best Bloody Marys!
