Our favourite work experience writer, Erin, has been back in the dealchecker office this month. This time she wants to tell us all about the best destinations along the Dabube…

The Danube is a magnificent river that flows through 10 countries (more than any other in the world), and is Europe’s second longest river. Its sheer size alone gives you the opportunity to experience it in many destinations throughout Europe, so we thought we’d provide the cities where you can get the best views!

Vienna

Danube in Vienna

Vienna is known for its all-round beauty whatever the season, with its gorgeous city landscapes drawing visitors in. Never failing to amaze, the Austrian capital has plenty of activities on offer for all. Guests can take a family trip to the Schonnbrunn Zoo for a fun-filled day, or maybe take a romantic trip to the Burggarten, a stunning palace garden with a modern art palm house.

Bratislava

Bratislava in Slovakia

Slovakia‘s cultural centre, Bratislava, is a remarkable city set along the Danube riverbank, which gives visitors the opportunity to escape city madness at any time. The city’s love of fine wine, food and music gives a unique experience as guests stroll beside the Danube soaking up the atmosphere around them. For food we recommend the Bratislava Flagship Restaurant for traditional meals, and a pint of beer from their very own brewery!

Budapest

The Danube flowing through Budapest

Budapest truly is a breathtakingly beautiful city! Take a tour of the open-air museum at Monument Park for a fun day out, and then come evening hit the city streets for the ultimate night out, featuring Budapest’s best bars and clubs. Make sure you check out Bors Gastro Bar too, a small but accommodating bar with amazing food for great prices!

Belgrade

Belgrade on the Danube

Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and is a fab spot for a mini-break. Spend your day cruising down the Danube soaking up the stunning views around you – you’ll wonder why you didn’t visit sooner! Come night, head into the centre of Belgrade and party the night away with the locals. And with such a fantastic nightlife reputation, you’ll certainly have a night to remember.

Linz

Linz on the Danube

Full of creativity, the city of Linz in Austria is a great spot for those looking for something a bit different, as well as some fantastic views of the Danube. It’s also a superb choice for a fun-filled night, with plenty on offer to guests! After a night of dancing, enjoy some amazing European food at Gelbes Krokodil (right click to translate to English), with multiple options on offer and all at a reasonable price.

Regensburg

The Danube in Regensburg

Regensburg is an incredible city in south-east Germany with one of the most impressive medieval skylines in the whole of the country. Take a boat trip along the Danube through the Old Town to witness all the amazing architecture before heading out to relish in some traditional Bavarian food.

Novi Sad

Novi Sad in Serbia

Novi Sad is the second largest city of Serbia and has plenty to keep you busy during your visit. From pretty parks and laneway bars, to some fabulous food options with a walk along the Danube afterwards, Novi Sad is a place well worth exploring.
