dealchecker's guide to Belfast

Northern Ireland has some of Europe's most beautiful scenery and, if you've organised car hire Belfast is the perfect place to base yourself. Within an hour you can be strolling along sandy beaches, hiking through a forest or watching seals in their natural habitat. A little further away is the spectacular Giants Causeway and Slieve Gullion which is home to many Irish legends.

Getting there
Cheap Belfast airport car hire is your best option, but beware; there are two so make sure you arrange it for the correct airport! Belfast City Airport is 10 to 20 minutes from the city centre, and is serviced by Ryanair and Flybe while Belfast International Airport is six miles away and serviced by Easyjet and Aer Lingus. British Airways service both.

What to do
Belfast is a buzzing city with beautiful Victorian architecture, great shopping and plenty of restaurants, cafes and traditional Irish pubs. If you're staying around the city centre you can try some of the impressive restaurants, including Cayenne (one of the best in Britain). There's stylish shopping on Lisburn Road and traditional shopping at St George's market - the oldest covered market in Ireland.

However, arranging car hire in Belfast allows you to experience the rural delights too. Highlights are Glanariff Forest Park which has romantic waterfalls and wooded glens; Dunluce Castle; and a drive along the craggy coastline. You can also take a day trip to the famous Giant's Causeway on the north Antrim coast.
