What To See In Kefalonia

A visit to a Greek Island would be incomplete without hitting the beach. Kefalonia certainly doesn't disappoint when it comes to having a variety. The resort area of Lassi has several picturesque beaches such as Kalamia Beach, Gradaki Beach and the Blue Flag Makrys Yialos, the latter of which is the most popular. Keep an eye out for a Kefalonian turtle! The most famous beach, however, would have to be Myrtos Beach, found in north-western Kefalonia. Here crystal-clear turquoise water laps against the white-pebbled shore; there's a reason why it's famous!

Other attractions of the island include the ancient caves of Drogarati and Melissani, situated near Sami, on the eastern coast of the island. Melissani Cave, known as the Cave of the Nymphs, is filled with brilliantly blue water and can be explored by boat, while the Drogarati Caves are home to hundreds upon hundreds of stalactites and stalagmites.

The history buffs will definitely be satisfied by the end of their trip to Kefalonia. In Argostoli, you could visit the extensive Museum of Archaeology, which features a large collection of relics found on the island over the years. To the south, travel to Lourdas and see the 13th century Monastery of Sissia that is said to have been founded by St Francis of Assisi. Then travel even further south-east to Skala, where you will find the ruins of an entire village.
