 Castle Hill

posted by DVC_Chris

If you are looking to get a panoramic view of the French Riviera, I have found no spots more beautiful than Castle Hill in Nice. Once you get to the top, although it is 100 steps, there is a small playground, some great stone works, and one of the most spectacular views you will ever see.

Hotel Windsor offered me a fantastic place to spend 2 very good days in. Constructed in the 19th century, the building projects contemporary art. The rooms are very different from a normal hotel room and most have wall paintings, that remind me of the contemporary art. A host of amenities and featur ... more

dealchecker's guide to Nice

Perched on the sunny Cote d'Azur, Nice is a great place to visit whether you are looking to top up your tan and dive into the sea or enjoy everything from art to architecture in the city. Restaurants serving the finest in French food are on hand to keep you full, while bars and nightclubs will keep you partying into the wee hours.

Early Spring Attractions

Nice is a hugely popular tourist destination. During the peak summer months, the city is teeming with tourist crowds. Visiting the city during the spring months of March and April allows you to experience Nice's attractions without the hustle and bustle; say goodbye to long queues!

The Nice Carnival is a huge event in the city's calendar every year and larger-than-life colourful parades take place daily. Ending on the 6th March 2013, the carnival is a burst of life, as musicians and dances take to the stage. If you're in the area, don't miss the Flower Parade at 2:30pm on the 6th March; the parade is held on the famous Promenade des Anglais.

As one of France's largest cities and a truly cosmopolitan place, Nice hosts a number of transient art and cultural exhibitions, as well as visits from a range of musicians. Be sure to check out the city's tourism website for more details on what's happening during spring.

Most of Nice's attractions can be enjoyed in the cooler weather. The city enjoys a large shopping district with big-name companies, as well as a number of markets (great for those on a budget!). The Cours Saleya flower and food market in the old quarter is a particularly lively market.

What To See In Nice

Sun, sea and sand are all available in liberal quantities during the summer months. If you don't want to spend your whole day on the beach then you can head to nearby sites of historical significance such as Cemenelum, an ancient Roman city which lies in ruins, or climb up Le Château hill for great views.

Nice is also home to a large number of museums and art galleries. The Musee des Beaux-Arts showcases works by artists such as Monet and Rodin, while the Musee Massena traces the area's history from the 18th century to World War II.

A fantastic daytrip option involves travelling approximately 30 minutes by car to nearby Monaco. Here you can visit the world-famous casinos and take some beautiful photos of the ports filled with luxurious yachts, as well as the surrounding countryside.
