Quick Guide to Kenya

Kenya really is a holiday paradise. It has some of the best game watching safaris in the world and hundreds of miles of pristine sandy beaches that offer a raft of entertainment including some excellent scuba diving.

How to get there
Kenya is between a 10 and 11 hour flight from the UK and is served mainly by direct flights from London although there are options from other major centres such as Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Belfast. There are a number of tour operators offering package holidays in Kenya and of course there is also the option to put together flights and hotels and car hire to make up independent holidays. Kenya offers two main types of holiday, safari and beach. The beach variety is on offer from most of the major tour operators such as Thomas Cook, MyTravel, Thomson and First Choice while safari holidays to Kenya tend to be offered by a much wider range of smaller operators such as African Safari Club.

When to go to Kenya

Holidays in Kenya do need to take account of the weather as the country has a tropical climate that has distinct monsoon periods. To make things more complicated Nairobi and Mombasa have different climates with Mombasa having significant rains in April and May only while Nairobi has two less pronounced rainy periods in April and May and then November and December. It is most likely that you will find cheap holidays to Kenya during these periods as they don't clash with school holidays and don't offer the best conditions. In terms of temperature Nairobi, because of its altitude, is comfortable all year round while Mombasa (which is considerably hotter) is most comfortable in July, August and September. Those looking for cheap holidays to Kenya are unlikely to find any bargains at this peak time of the year and you will have to search around for cheap hotels in Kenya too, but we can help you with that.
