Saving Money in Slovenia

With lost-cost carriers such as easyJet and Wizz Air offering cheap, direct flights to Slovenia the country's easily accessible on a budget. Coupled with the fact hotels in Slovenia offer great value for money, you really don't have to spend a lot to have a good time. If you plan to travel around during your break, taking the train as opposed to the bus actually works out cheaper and there are often discounts to be had when buying a return ticket. It's worth bearing in mind that food and drink tends to be a lot more expensive in the bigger cities, especially Ljubljana's Old Town, so look out for booze deals and set menus when dining out. If you're a keen skier, Slovenia offers outstanding value for money too.

What to Do in Slovenia

Thanks to its small stature (Slovenia's roughly the same size as Wales) it's easy to see a lot of the country even if you only have a short amount of time. The capital, Ljubljana boasts beautiful architecture, pretty Old Town and medieval castle. The coast, just an hour and half away, is home to beaches lapped by the Mediterranean sea while the alpine resort of Bled makes for a romantic getaway and Kranjska Gora offers spectacular skiing. Why not go underground during your Slovenia holiday and visit one of the many caves? The UNESCO-protected Skocjan cave, with its river and gorges, really is a sight to see!
