Located in western Greece, Kefalonia is the biggest of the Ionian Islands and better known by its ancient Greek form: Cephalonia. Most holidays to Kefalonia are destined for the purpose-built resort of Lassi which features beautiful, safe Blue Flag beaches, water sports and a range of hotels to suit all pockets. Other parts of the island feature stunning mountain and forest landscapes and cultural treasures like the many world-renowned archaeological sites.
Choosing a hotel in Kefalonia can be done by destination or budget. Hotels in the capital city of Argostoli are largely modern and high class but by travelling a few miles out of the city, it is possible to enjoy some warm Greek hospitality in one of the traditionally maintained fishing villages such as Fiscardo. Beach villages such as Myrtos and Assos cater for all types of traveller with accommodation to suit every taste and budget, including some very cheap Kefalonia hotels.
The summer months are the peak season for tourists when everything on the island is in full swing, but if you prefer a little more peace and relaxation, the rest of the year is still pleasantly warm. Many people are now also opting for winter breaks when cheap flights to Kefalonia and cheap Kefalonia hotels are readily available. The island's famous loggerhead turtle population is one of the big draws for tourists during the warmest months, when the turtles are at their most active during the day.
