Forget about Michelin stars and Masterchef, these dining experiences are memorable for their crazy locations.

Certainly not for the faint hearted is the world’s highest restaurant, At.mosphere in Dubai. At 442 metres high (1350ft) it’s located on the 122nd floor of the world’s tallest building, the Buri Khalifa.

It only just opened in January and it’s instantly apparent that dining at this height comes at a price. Patrons wishing to eat here are expected to pay at least $179 per head and even afternoon tea requires a minimum spend of $100 per head. At.mosphere is 92 meters taller than the world’s second highest eatery — the revolving 360 Restaurant in Toronto’s CN Tower.

Another unique eatery at a great height is The Dining Pod, an exclusive eating experience in the six-star Soneva Kiri Beach Resort on the Thai Island of Ko Kood.

The steel framed pod is positioned in a birch tree, with a rattan roof and space to accommodate just four guests. The risky bit is getting into and out of the pod as it requires a zip line – and that includes the food which arrives via a flying waiter!

The third of our sky-high eating establishments is quite simply called ‘Dinner in the Sky’.

The event company operates in a range of countries including Belgium, Hungary, Italy and South Africa. You are strapped into your chair at the dinner table and then raised 45 metres above ground by a crane. Once you are up there you can eat breakfast, lunch or dinner, enjoy cocktails and waiter service and spectacular views. Our only concern is what happens when you need the loo?
