The Tottenham Literature Festival
Bernie Grants Arts Centre, Town Hall Approach Rd, Tottenham Green, London N15 4RX
Price: From £5
Running: 13th – 19th November 2023
This week-long literature festival is focused on works by black writers, poets and artists which explore what it means to live as our whole selves in today’s society. There are talks from the founder of gal-dem as she promotes her debut novel, Rosewater, stories from a number of children’s authors and illustrators, and an array of short film showings over the weekend.
All of the events start at £5, with a pay-what-you-can ethos beyond that.

Eat At:
274 High Rd, London N15 4AJ
For a taste of Nigeria on Tottenham High Road, look no further than Chuku’s. This tapas-style spot was dreamt up by the brother-and-sister team, Emeka and Ifeyinwa, in 2016 as a pop-up before finding this permanent spot in early 2020. We’re happy that they weathered the storm of the pandemic and have managed to serve up heartwarming dishes like the egusi bowl (dumplings perched atop a trio of stews), jollof quinoa and suya meatballs ever since.
You’ll want to try as many dishes as possible, so we recommend coming with friends and sharing!

Drink In:
101 Newington Green Rd, London N1 4QY
This is a bar quite unlike your usual boozer, one with a few differences in fact. Not only is it located in a working butchers (it’s from the same people as Broadway Market’s much-loved Hill & Szrok), but it is also one of London’s newest listening bars. These bars are popping up across London, and are appealing to music lovers for whom sound quality is of the utmost importance. Don’t let this intimidate you though: if you’re just someone looking for somewhere vibey to have a boogie at the weekend, you’ll enjoy this fun little spot too.
It’s only open for music on Thursday and Friday evenings, and you’ll find a short drinks list of beers and natural wines here.
