The chilly weather and darker nights have us, here at dealchecker, dreaming of warmer climes and celebrations that last for days. We’ve rounded up the festivals from around the globe which are inspiring us to travel this month.

Pushkar Camel Fair – Rajasthan

An annual camel trade fair might not necessarily sound like a festival that you want to be rushing to attend, but that’s before you understand what the Pushkar Camel Fair in India is all about. Thousands of camels are brought to be sold each year, but they’re far outnumbered by the visitors who come to watch the spectacle. Snake charmers, acrobats, dancers, musicians and food sellers join the crowds who flock to the desert town with a lake at its centre providing food and entertainment to traders and revellers alike. However, the camels themselves provide an unlikely source of entertainment with camel beauty contests and a competition to see which camel can carry the most people.

This year’s event takes place from the 8th – 14th November. The closest major airport is Jaipur, and you can connect on from here by train or car.

North Florida Fair – Tallahassee

The North Florida Fair celebrates its 75th birthday in 2016, meaning that the festivities this year are even bigger and bolder. To begin, the entry fee has been reduced for the opening day to a tiny 75 cents. The fair itself is incredibly varied in its offerings – there are fairground rides to release your inner child on, a flora and fauna show, a circus and a number of events running throughout. Always fans of the absurd, one of our favourite events includes the Show-me Swine Racers – the pigs that race around a course in an attempt to cross the finish line first.

The 11-day event which runs from the 3rd – 13th November is sure to be a hit with all of the family.

Lord Mayor’s Show – London

The Lord Mayor’s Show is a historic event – it has been running for more than 800 years and was initially set up to show that the mayor’s loyalty was with the monarch. Nowadays, there is still a procession in commemoration of this but it’s just a great excuse for Londoners to come together and celebrate. The event this year takes place on the 12th November and consists of a river pageant, followed by a procession through the streets, and ending with a fireworks display over the river. Alongside the main events, there are free guided tours which take in some of the city’s quirky back streets, allowing visitors to explore parts of London they may not be familiar with.

New York Comedy Festival – New York

Those looking for a laugh during the cold winter months should head to New York for the New York Comedy Festival which runs from the 1st to the 6th November. Comedians from around the globe gather in the Big Apple for a celebration of all things funny. Comedy tends to be topical, so you can expect plenty of political satire so close to the US presidential election! Famous names attending include Trevor Noah, Bill Maher and Bridget Everett and there will be a whole host of breakout acts on offer.
