A dealchecker Easter With a Difference

The upcoming Easter weekend is sadly not going to be the one we were all planning, and for some (especially those with young children) the idea of four days off work and school may fill you with dread. So, here at dealchecker HQ (currently our living rooms up and down the country) we took some time to talk about the little things we’re looking forward to and how we can make the most of a slightly different Easter weekend this year.

Ste, Managing Director

Hove

What is your role at dealchecker?
I drive the culture and performance of dealchecker, and keep the team happy with coffee, cake and copious amounts of alcohol (out of work hours obviously!).

Where do you call home?
Manchester will always be my home home, but for the last 20 years I’ve lived down south. I’ve spent over 15 of these years living in Hove where I still reside – it’s a wonderful, bustling place filled with amazing people. I live about a 10-minute walk from the beach and a five-minute drive from the South Downs, so it’s also ideally located.

Who are you spending Easter with?
I’ll be spending my Easter with my wife and two daughters.

What are your plans for the Easter weekend?
For the last four years we’ve taken advantage of the long weekend and been to various Center Parcs throughout the country. That was also the plan this year, however this has been cancelled for obvious reasons. Instead we will likely go for a quiet walk from our house to the South Downs one day and then maybe a family cycle in our neighbourhood another day. It’s vitally important to give the kids fresh air and exercise during this difficult time. In the evenings we’ll probably watch a family film together to take our minds somewhere else for a couple of hours.

What food do you eat on Easter Sunday?
Bacon butties in the morning, soup for lunch, and then roast beef (complete with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and vegetables) for tea – all topped off with a glass or two of red, of course.

Polly, Social Media Executive

What is your role at dealchecker?
I look after all of dealchecker’s social media channels and help to write up the excellent deals and blog posts that we send to your inbox!

Where do you call home?
Home for me will always be Cornwall, as it’s where I grew up. But I’ll be living in Essex for the foreseeable future, and I love it there too!

Who are you spending Easter with?
My boyfriend and his family. We’re really lucky to live in a granny annexe at his family home, so we have our own quiet place to work from home during the week, and family to be around in our free time. It definitely makes you feel a little less stir crazy when you are isolated with more than one person, so we know how lucky we are!

What are your plans for the Easter weekend?
It will be weird to have two extra days off while working from home, so I’ll probably fill it with some long walks with my boyfriend, and definitely some time in the hot tub. There’s a massive jacuzzi just outside of our door, so we’ll be having an Easter pool party in isolation – life could be worse!

What food do you eat on Easter Sunday?
A roast, my boyfriend’s dad always puts on a great spread for Easter. And probably lots of cake, too! I’ve become quite the baker since being in isolation and having more time on my hands.

Vanessa, Head of Marketing

What is your role at dealchecker?
The internet can be a confusing place, we know this. That’s why everyone needs people like me on board to make sure that you can find our amazing holidays and flights out there in the online abyss!

Where do you call home?
I’m a born and bred Londoner, so I feel very at home in my flat in South London.

Who are you spending Easter with?
I’m in isolation with my husband. We only got married a few months ago, so this quarantine life has been a good way to test whether we made the right decision.

What are your plans for the Easter weekend?
It’s a friend of mine’s birthday over the Easter weekend, so she has set up a virtual video party with the promise of games and has requested fancy dress. As it just so happens, I have a box of inflatable props and wigs, so I’m basically sorted.

What food do you eat on Easter Sunday?
A long weekend is a great opportunity to get baking and be a little more adventurous than usual. My personal fave was my pouring egg-nest-cake-creation, which took about a week to eat. This year will be a little trickier because I haven’t managed to buy eggs for over a week, but I have seen some vegan hot cross bun recipes that could be worth attempting.
