We know you love the Canary Islands but sometimes it can be tricky to know exactly where to pick for your holiday in Lanzarote – so we’re here to help with the low-down on the top resorts. This is a great island if you’re after a relaxing break with your family, a fun time with friends, or an arty and cosy romantic getaway, Lanzarote flights are cheap all year round!
There are three main resorts to choose from so we’ve picked apart the differences to give you a little helping hand on your holiday decision.
Playa Blanca

This former fishing village has firmly left its past behind and today is a small but fun resort. There’s a choice of bars and nightclubs for the evenings and plenty of sand to go round on the beach, where you’ll find a variety of water sports to keep you entertained. If you’re after a more sophisticated stay then stick closer to the new Marina where you’ll find luxury yachts and expensive restaurants. Playa Flamingo is the best beach for families as it’s the most sheltered, but if you’ve got Lanzarote car hire why not venture off the beaten track – and down the dirt toll road to Papagayo beach and its surrounding pretty bays. You can also reach them from the main resort by boat.
Costa Teguise

This is a purpose-built resort so it lacks some of the organically-grown feel of the other two, but this does mean that there are plenty of amenities and space for everyone, making for a quiet and peaceful time away. The main beach, Las Cucharas, is best known for being the prime windsurfing spot on the island, and it’s towards one end of the resort so be careful to check how far it is from your accommodation. There’s a great range of hotels here with plenty of 4* and 5* properties if you want to treat yourself to a little luxury. There are more attractions nearby here too, with an aquarium, Lanzarote’s first golf course, and a water park.
Puerto del Carmen

This is the oldest resort on the island and thanks to Lanzarote’s no high rise policy it sprawls quite far – so check your Lanzarote hotel’s distance from the beach. Splash out on luxury villas in Los Mojones or find accommodation near to the seafront strip to be close to Lanzarote’s biggest party scene. The strip has pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs where you can party all night, but don’t expect anything on the magnitude of some other popular beach party destinations like Magaluf and Malia. Search out the traditional heart of the resort area where you can still see the fishing village roots and watch Canarian boules in the evening at the harbour. To enjoy all the facilities but be assured of some peace try Playa de los Pocillos, but you’ll find that Matagorda is very close to airport – handy for a short tranfer, but not necessarily great for a relaxing break.
