No holiday is complete without an Instagram shot or five to make all of your friends at home jealous. Málaga, on the famed Costa del Sol coastline in the south of Spain, has plenty of locations that are sure to make your followers positively green with envy. Here, we round up the prettiest spots.

Best for… looking cultured: Museo Picasso Málaga

The Museo Picasso Málaga is something of a delight – there are over 250 of Picasso’s finest works in the sublime surroundings of the Buenavista Palace. That alone entices us to book our flights, and travel there straight away. However, if you need any more persuading, you might be interested to know that this was Picasso’s birthplace too. Plus, all those arty pensive shots make us look like we’re spending our holidays doing more than getting our tan on and supping cocktails.

Best for… amazing views: Gibralfaro castle

Gibralfaro castle, which was built in AD976, sits atop Mount Gibralfaro, 130 metres above the city below. The castle itself is impressive with its ramparts rising above the lush green forest that surrounds it. There is a small museum detailing the history of the castle, which until 1925 acted as a military base. As well as being an incredibly interesting spot to explore, the castle boasts incredible views of the city – you might want to use this opportunity to boost your social media channels.

Best for… hot dog legs: La Malagueta beach

La Malagueta beach has glistening tower blocks, soft golden sands and looming hills beyond – all of which make for a pretty great photo! Whether you’re showing off your sun-kissed legs or gloating with a cocktail from a nearby bar, this is a pretty good spot to do so. When you’re not busy taking snaps, you can enjoy fresh seafood at the local restaurants such as Chiringuito Tropicana on the seafront or for something fancier, head to Ba Japones for sushi.

Best for… shopping bags galore: Calle Marqués de Larios

Calle Marqués de Larios is a pedestrianised street down by the port, and it is awash with independent boutiques and shoe shops. If you’re going to be snapped while shopping anywhere in Málaga, this is where you want to be seen. We recommend checking out Camper, their shoes are all designed and produced in Spain and are significantly cheaper than at home. If you’re more inclined to window shop than flash the cash, then you can take in the atmosphere at one of the many coffee shops on this glamorous street.

Best for… selfies in historical surroundings: the Roman theatre

Málaga is graced with a Roman theatre right in its centre, and this historic site dominates any bird’s eye view of the city. The theatre has an intriguing history: having once hosted grand plays it later became a quarry, and bits of it were picked out and used in the creation of the Alcazaba fortress. In 1951, an excavation began and the site has now been restored (as much as possible) to its former glory. This is a pretty grand location for a selfie!
