We’ve all heard lots about Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but what do we really know about Sharjah? If we’re honest, we didn’t know an awful lot about this Emirate state before researching, but now we’re itching to fly over and discover this exciting new destination that’s just popped on to our radar! Here are some things to help you decide whether Sharjah is place for you…

1. It’s bigger than we thought

Although only 90 square miles wide, Sharjah is the third largest Emirate out of seven.

2. A detox holiday

Known as the ‘dry’ Emirate, Sharjah has a no alcohol policy across the entire state. Great if you’re looking for a detoxing holiday for the new year!

3. Who needs Las Vegas?

Khalid Lagoon is a very popular tourist hot-spot. Filled with almost two million square hectares of water and home to the third tallest fountain in the world, it’s no wonder why visitors flock to see the famous water displays.

Sharjah is the only Emirate to share a border with all six other Emirates.

The name Sharjah translates as ‘the rising sun’.

The aquarium is definitely worth a visit during your stay in Sharjah. Marine life fans will have a fantastic time checking out more than 150 different species from across the globe.

7. And for art fans

This state is home to one of the largest art museums in the whole of the UAE. With three floors filled with a grand total of 72 galleries, you’ll need to put aside a day to check this place out.

8. Stunning buildings

The most photographed building in Sharjah happens to be a shopping mall. Sounds strange, but just wait until you set eyes on the impressive Blue Souq.

9. Sun, sun, sun!

If you’re looking for sunshine, then Sharjah is the place for you. With an average of just five days of rainfall during the whole year, it’s a great escape from our unpredictable British climate.
