Pizza Pie, That’s Amore

After an unexpected cancer diagnosis left Rich Morgan in a hospice, life’s joys inevitably seem few and far between. Having cancelled a trip to Indianapolis with his wife, Julie – where they had lived 25 years prior – their dreams of revisiting their favourite haunts were dashed. But, after a tip-off from a family member, the couple’s favourite pizzeria came to hear about their story and in a remarkable act of human kindness, the 18-year-old manager, Dalton Shaffer, bagged up the couple’s precious pizzas and drove them 225 miles to deposit them on their doorstep. As Julie surmised, “I am beyond overwhelmed and humbled by this act of genuine kindness. Dalton brought our family so much joy—and the best pizza in the world—at a really difficult time.”

The 1980s board game, Hungry Hungry Hippos, quickly became a firm favourite in households across the country. But how does one play? Well, each participant chooses their own hippo-puppet, and manoeuvres its clanking jaws in a bid to bag the biggest bounty of marbles – the winner is whoever secures the largest dinner. In more recent times, Bryn Celyn Care Home in Wales brought the game to life with residents competing to scoop up the most balls from their wheelchairs during a life-size tournament. The raucous shrieks of glee billowing from the care home’s occupants are enough to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Plates of Plastic

A recent study has found that there is 6.3 billion metric tons of plastic waste on this planet. This shocking figure reinforces the importance of humanity’s struggle towards a sustainable future. In a recent and groundbreaking development, scientists have discovered a bacterium that loves nothing more than dining on toxic waste. According to Hermann Heipieper, “These findings represent an important step in being able to reuse hard-to-recycle polyurethane products”, meaning that we are getting ever closer to a cleaner and greener planet – bon appetit little guys!
