Music To Our Ears

The xx on stage

There are several things here at dealchecker that we simply can’t do without. I was going to say that number one on that list is the Internet, so we can check all those lovely deals we send out to you but if I’m being honest it’s probably tea. We order tea bags by the sackful!

After that in importance is the music that our resident DJ Joe plays to us all day long. We’ve just hit 40,000 plays on Spotify which is all scrobbled onto our page so that you can check it out. It’s an eclectic mix to be sure and here’s a quick rundown of what we’ve really been enjoying. Psst, you can also be friends with us over there so that you can see what tunes we’re into, and suggest music to us!

Top 5 Artists

Disclosure at the decks

Our top five artists are a mixed bunch to say the least! We’ve racked up a rather whopping 304 listens to UK electronic duo Disclosure with 2012 Mercury Prize winners indie rock Alt-J making it into second place. After that is US folk band Mountain Goats, indie pop winners of the 2010 Mercury Prize The xx and dream pop band Young Galaxy. Yes, I’m not quite sure what that one means either – but we sure like it here!

Top 5 Tracks

If you thought the albums were an eclectic selection, stand back! Top of the pile in our most listened to standalone tracks, with 22 listens is Chuck Berry’s 1958 hit Johnny B. Goode [YouTube link] followed by Feel The Love by Rudimental – named Zane Lowe’s “Hottest Record in the World” in 2012 [YouTube link]. Hot on the heels of those are Curtis Mayfield’s Move On Up [YouTube link], the Lumineer’s Ho Hey [YouTube link], Mirrors from Justin Timberlake’s latest album [YouTube link] and everyone’s top Friday request Friday I’m In Love by The Cure [YouTube link].

Theme Days

We’re pretty partial to theme days too, when anyone’s favourite song that fits the theme will get a play, regardless of how many other people like it. Recent themes have included (predictably) our favourite songs to listen to when the sun shines, as well as songs for when it rains and Disney classics. You’ve really not lived ‘til you’ve heard new deal hunter Raj singing A Whole New World. Sadly we were too slow to catch it on camera, if by too slow I actually mean too busy laughing.
